How can I help you?

I use the effective and compassionate tools of Internal Family Systems™ (IFS) to help you to build a positive, inspiring, openhearted relationship with all parts of yourself. I help you to turn self-judgment and frustration into understanding and clarity so that you can appreciate and integrate the parts of you that have been ignored, wounded, or marginalized. I help you to become aware of the narratives you live by, and help you to transform them if they are no longer working for you. I help you deepen your connection to your heart and higher sense of self.

A little about IFS

IFS is a non-pathologizing, evidence-based model, a means of working with our many thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and behaviors— different parts of ourselves that make up the natural multiplicity of the human mind. The unique process of IFS, in which we are guided to close our eyes and notice these different inner voices, or "parts," to connect and listen deeply—allows us to discover what’s behind the energy of our feelings, beliefs, and reactions to any situation. This process helps us untangle the often polarized parts of ourselves, unburden old beliefs, and offer loving witness to old pain that needs to be heard, held with compassion, and released.  When our parts learn to trust our “presence” with them, they become open to collaborate, take on new roles in our system, soften, and shift towards harmony. In addition, our parts become less reactive, feel safer, and less likely to fall into old patterns.

Inside everyone there is a courageous, curious, compassionate, confident, and intuitively creative, “Self”— our innate core, untouched by the burdens and damaging beliefs we can acquire from life experiences. This Self can be experienced as calm, peaceful and even naturally joyous. With IFS parts work, we learn how to connect with our parts from this centered core and help them release burdens of injury, pain, and shame. This enables the different parts of ourselves carrying these burdens to become updated into the present, able to trust the stable and healing power of the Self, and more able to meet life’s challenges. In this way we have more access to Self-energy and Self-leadership. Our parts can relax, and actually become important allies within our system, taking on preferred roles and becoming integrated positively into the whole. Our Self-leadership leads to more playfulness, presence, patience and perspective.

What is Self-leadership?

Self-leadership is living life deliberately, fully aligned with your goals and aspirations. It is noticing which "parts" of you (thoughts/feelings/beliefs) are present in reaction to situations. It is noticing which parts of you are in conflict with each other about doing something or “being a certain way.” Self-leadership is accessing the place of calm within your true, innate Self that has no judgment towards all your different (even less-appreciated) parts of who you are. With self-leadership you can "un-blend" when a particular part of you dominates your experience of a moment or situation in an unhelpful way. Self-leadership allows you to partner with all your parts in productive and balanced ways.
